Sunday 25 May 2014
Members gathered together in style in the Melbourne Room Melbourne Town Hall on Sunday 25 May to celebrate an important event in the life of the Fellowship – its 30th anniversary.
Way back in early 1984, advertisements were placed local newspapers informing interested people within the community that a First Fleet association was going to be formed in Victoria, and were you interested? Following a good response, the first meeting was held on 25 May 1984 at the offices of The Royal Historical Society, 459 Collins Melbourne, convened by Jonathon King. So successful was that meeting, that an interim Executive Committee of 11 people was selected with Jonathan King as President. This committee served until the first Annual General Meeting on 20 May 1985.
The name of First Fleet Fellowship, Victoria, was adopted by a meeting of the Executive Committee on 11 July 1984 and in 1991 it became an incorporated society.
That brings us back to the Melbourne Room and to why members were gathered together on this Sunday afternoon. It was to reminisce on past events and happenings over those past 30 years and to toast and sing happy birthday to the First Fleet Fellowship Victoria Inc.
